Linkedin is the largest professional network with over 100 millions users and over 2 million company pages. LinkedIn contains the profiles of Fortune 500 executives and leading entrepreneurs. The average individual salary on LinkedIn is $109 000.
Plus, there were over 2 billion searches on LinkedIn last year alone. If you want to leverage the platform effectively, you have to do more than just fill in your name. There are ways to optimize your profile to help you achieve specific business goals.
Here are 4 reasons to optimize your LinkedIn profile...
1) It will help you attract highly qualified customers to your business like a magnet instead of interrupting people with various forms of broadcast marketing. Social media optimization is making traditional marketing such as cold-calling, print advertising, T.V. advertising, junk mail, non-solicited email and trade shows less effective and more expensive. An optimized LinkedIn profile will help you get found by promising business opportunities that fit your skills or potential customers organically.
2) It will increase traffic to your website from search engines because LinkedIn allows their users' profiles to be found. Linking your profile to your website can help drive traffic, and improve the page rank and rating of your site in the search engines.
3) It will help you find a job. LinkedIn has a feature that suggests jobs to fit your skills. Much of the information about you is aggregated from your user profile. A well optimized profile will get more accurate positions recommended to you. You will also be able to connect with more relevant individuals If your profile is properly optimized, your connections will be more relevant.
4) It will help you build your business. You can connect, through LinkedIn, to people who will help your company grow. Your profile is an easy way to showcase your experience and expertise so that people who search by services will find you and want to do business with you. More and more people are using the professional network to increase sales, grow business, and find suppliers.

GuestWow! Didn't realize the average income on LinkedIn is $109 000. With over 100 million professionals on LinkedIn, does sound like a great platform to exchange information, ideas and opportunities

GuestI've been using the LinkedIn groups and answers lately... lively discussions. I try to offer my insight. Spend about 10 to 30 minutes a day on it and it's been helpful for my business.

GuestFor 3 months, I altered various fields of my profile and logged the effect on the number of searches that it appeared in according to LinkedIn analytics. It is possible to optimize your LinkedIn profile to rank better in search. This is a great service:)

GuestCan you provide just a couple of generic pointers?

GuestI'd say one of the more important aspects to optimize on LinkedIn is your title (the headline). Try to explain what you do and how it benefits others (in as few words as possible)... so relevant clients searching for you can find you.
Ideally you want to include 2 or 4 keywords and your contact information (because on LinkedIn contacting a non-connection isn’t easy unless you’re in the same group or you have a mutual friend). Your contact info will help potential prospects, who are not in your circle, reach you more easily.

GuestI agree! I'd say:
Add keywords to the high-traffic fields of your LinkedIn profile (headline, Job title/ description and profile summary). I've seen this provide a measurable increase in the number displayed in search results. I've also had highly relevant people contact me off LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/wandia
Optimizing your profile will not only help it rank better in search results but also pre qualify potential connections.
Still, while I am thinking of Keywords on LinkedIn, I've found that it's important to optimize content for the user experience not for the platform... I don't want an important client to think I'm an idiot because I said social media strategy 3 times in the same sentence... you can get away with a lot more in blog articles written for search engines than you can on LinkedIn
